Japanese Bankers Association to Employ Fujitsu Cloud Service-Based Blockchain Platform
富士通has recently announced that the Japanese Bankers Association (JBA) is going to adapt the former’s cloud service-based Blockchain platform. It would be made available over Fujitsu Cloud Service K5. Starting from October 2017, JBA is planning to offer this Collaborative Blockchain Platform as a testbed environment to its member banks and other institutions. The platform is going to be rendered for applications employing blockchain technology like settlement and funds transfer services, and identity and time-of-transaction authentication. The association will also support the practical implementation of these applications.

The Japan Marine Recreation Association (JMRA) and Fujitsu Limited have announced to deploy a cloud-based emergency position reporting system. This system is aimed to be utilized for JMRA’s pleasure boat rescue service, the Boat Assistance Network (BAN). The service will begin in the fall of 2017. BAN is a rescue service operated by JMRA to offer 24/7 support to pleasure rescue boat owners who run into minor troubles. However, it’s often a challenge to track the confirmed location of the crafts that are in trouble. Owing to the lack of reference points on the sea and the tidal waves carrying everything away, it’s difficult for those requesting help to convey their exact position.

富士通Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. collectively introduced a gallium-nitride (GaN) high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT) power amplifier for use in W-band (75-110 GHz) transmissions. The newly developed power amplifier will be used in W-band transmissions offering both high output and high efficiency. It will also deliver an improved transistor performance through the reduction of electrical current leakage and internal GaN-HEMT resistance. Fujitsu has achieved 4.5 watts per millimeter of gate width which is the world’s highest output density in the W-band. It has also confirmed a 26% reduction in the energy consumption as compared to the conventional technology.

富士通has demonstrated its ability to link the in-house cyber threat intelligence (CTI) utilization system with the US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) system for sharing CTI provided through Automated Indicator Sharing (AIS) program. The latter rapidly shares threat indicators between government and private companies. By integrating these systems, Fujitsu will be able to analyse the CTI it has developed as well as the one from AIS. As a result, in case of cyberattacks, threat indicators about attacks with the same or similar elements along with intelligence about countermeasures can be supplied from AIS and used to respond.

富士通Develops Virtual Machine Technology to Increase Server Mounting Density in Datacenters
富士通实验室有限公司宣布开发a virtual machine (VM) control technology in order to improve the server rack mounting density for each datacenter rack. As of now, the number of servers mounted to a rack in data centers is limited by the total rated electrical power of the servers, which is supposed to be less than the power supply of the rack. However, often the server load is low at approximately 10%-50% and the power usage of each rack proportional to the load is low as compared to the rated power. This leads to a lower server mounting density of the racks. So, with an aim to increase the server mounting density in data centers, Fujitsu’s new technology is going to enable efficient server placement by setting up a partition made up of backup servers in the datacenter.
富士通Develops AI-Based Technology to Retrieve Similar Disease Cases from a Computed Tomography Database
富士通has announced the development of an AI-based technology that will retrieve similar disease cases from a computed tomography (CT) database of previously taken images. It has been developed with joint efforts of Fujitsu Laboratories and Fujitsu R&D Center Co. Ltd. It will work by retrieving similar cases of abnormal shadows expanding in a 3-dimensional manner. There are existing technologies used by doctors to specify an area of focus in a certain slice image and retrieve other patients with similar slice images. Such techniques have proved to be beneficial when the abnormal shadows are concentrated at one place, like an early-stage lung cancer.

富士通has recently revealed that it has received an order for a new top-class Supercomputer System from the Research Institute for Information Technology at Kyushu University. The company will ramp up the operations commencing in October 2017. The Supercomputer system is going to consist of more than 2,000 servers including the Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY CX400 which is the next-generation model of Fujitsu’s x86 server. The system is expected to offer the top-class performance of about 10 petaflops. Besides, this will be Japan’s first supercomputer equipped with a large-scale private cloud environment constructed on a front-end subsystem, linked with a computational server of a back-end subsystem through a high-speed file system.
